Islanders are passionate about their fishing community here and are worried about the changes they are now seeing and experiencing. 30 years ago, while on the natural illustration and ecological studies MA at The Royal College of Art, I was researching and writing my pieces on the marine life of Sark. At the start of this year, inspired by my recent visit to Alaska, I decided that I wanted to re-visit the subject of our local fishing industry. For this pastel I felt it was important to experience octopus fishing first hand. It was an experience I will never forget.
