Nelly has been fishing for salmon and spot prawns from her own 31 foot fishing boat called “The Heron” for the last 8 years. Along with her husband Michael on his boat, they run their own sustainable fish business, “Drifters Fish”. I met Nelly’s mum at her art supplies store while working on the Artists for Nature Foundation’s (ANF) project in Cordova, Alaska, last summer. She told me how proud she is of her daughter and her fishing life. Nelly was born in the year of the Exxon Valdiz oil disaster and her father was also a fisherman. This piece symbolises the recovery of their fisheries in Prince William Sound.

ANF organised an earlier project in the area 27 years ago and this re-visit by international artists seeks to highlight this very special region of Alaska with a project exhibition and book during 2027.
